This article from the WSJ is predicting that pent-up demand for services such as food, entertainment, and travel will spike once everything opens back up to full capacity. I think this is a fair assessment because even now restaurants are dealing with long wait times due to the people that already feel comfortable going out fighting for their seats in a limited capacity arrangements. The same holds true with traveling due to the limited seating on planes it can be more difficult to travel where people want to go. I think this is going to lead people to increase the amount they go out to eat, travel, and explore in-person entertainment options in the months following everything opening back up. However, I do not see this increase demand lasting forever. I believe that people will quickly get used to things being back to “normal” and revert to habits that more closely resemble their pre-pandemic routines.
