Module 6: Discussion – Leadership Competencies

Discussion – Leadership Competencies

Kearney-Nunnery (2020) describes 5 themes of essential nursing leadership competencies derived from a qualitative study with nursing leaders from a variety of leadership positions. These are:

  • Communication proficiency with an emphasis on listening skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to communicate a vision, motivate, and inspire
  • Ability to use data and technology in decision making and fiscal saviness
  • Courage to be proactive with change and not reactive and crisis driven

Evaluate your own level of competency in these areas and then speak to when you had an occasion to demonstrate any of those skills in practice and where would you like further professional development to be most effective. Remember that leaders are not only chief nursing officers and managers, but those who mobilize individuals to achieve great things.

Instructions:

Please post your initial response by 11:59 PM EST Wednesday of Week 6, and comment on the posts of two classmates by 11:59 PM EST Sunday.

Submission Instructions:

No credit will be given for any late threaded discussion posts or late final assignments. The rationale underlying this policy is that since the threaded discussions are a central part of the class, student participation is necessary (and required) during the current week of each lesson. Consequently, students must post their reply to the threaded discussion question(s) and reply to at least two classmates’ posts during the week of the relevant unit in order to be eligible for credit.

Is this the question you were looking for? If so, place your order here to get started!
