For the online survey, it just requires people to answer question online, and it is hard to confirm the accuracy and reliability of these questions. Even though the interviews require more money and efforts to perform it, but face-to-face method are able to guarantee the results of experiment. And the questions will be changed over the interview, which is been able to know more about the details and other information. Another advantage of the interview method is that is actually results in a higher response rate than does the questionnaire. Many people who would ignore a questionnaire are willing to talk, with an interviewer who is obviously interested in what they have to say (Questions and interview). Are interviews more reliable than online surveys?
In this chapter, we learned about many ways to conduct research. Two of those being in-person interviews and online surveys.
In-person interviews are when one person (the interviewer) asks the survey questions to the other person (the respondent). The researchers record the answers of the respondents rather than them sending in their own answers online as they would on an internet survey. This is mostly also done face-to-face and allows the researcher and respondent to connect on another level rather than if they were to do it over the phone (Cengage textbook 9-5).
Online surveys allow the respondent to input their own answers to the questions and click “submit,” since it is an online questionnaire. Since there is no interviewer, it is possible that the respondents are not being truthful with their answers and are just typing what people want to hear (Cengage textbook 9-7).
