This topic has explored the purpose of higher education. In answering the discussion question, explain what your personal, professional, and educational goals are and in what way the 5 components of the GCU Mission Statement will help you achieve these goals. According to the GCU mission consists of five components which are global citizens, critical thinkers, effective communicators, responsible leaders, and Christian worldview. These components have and will assist me in achieving many of my goals. There are a lot of goals in life I have set for myself. As a first time GCU student this course have provided me with the guidance I have been missing in life that will allow me to set goals that are realistic and attainable. The GCU mission consists of five components which are global citizens, critical thinkers, effective communicators, responsible leaders, and Christian worldview. These components have and will assist me in achieving my personal, educational, and professional goals I have set. Even though I set goals for myself there are times that my family is included in these goals. As a first- time mother there are many things I am learning for myself but also for my daughter. Being a good example to her educationally and personally is what I strive for. Therefore, being a global citizen will allow me to be open to diversity because we are currently living in a diverse world. Also, being a critical thinker is imperative to growth and development of my child and myself. As a parent and student evaluating issues and forming judgements in life are important to our continuous growth. My educational goal is to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. One of the keys to succeed in my academic career is being an effective communicator. In the education field, effective communication is mandatory. My professional goal is to obtain a classroom teaching ages three to five years old. As I stated earlier being a global citizen makes it easier to deal with student and parents of different backgrounds. Understanding or being open to different backgrounds is important in teaching. Critical thinking has to be known to be taught to others. This skill is an ongoing process therefore students should be introduced to this strategy early. Effective communication has to be taught and learned. Teachers and students also have to communicate effectively through teaching. In conclusion, my personal, professional, and educational goals I have set consists of components that will aide me to my success.
